Thank you to all families who contributed to our photos this week, it really is lovely to see what you have all been doing. Please continue to send your photos in.

During this term we would be preparing our leavers for school, this would include looking at sounds and letters, changing for PE, developing our maths skills, name writing and encouraging independence in self-care. We would also be sending home letter worksheets each day with the sounds and letters of the week. We are so disappointed that we cannot support your children during this time but if you feel your child needs help with getting dressed or independently going to the toilet then just get them to practice, you could turn it into a game: set a timer to see if they can beat their time previously or make a reward chart to incentivise them.

With regards to maths, we would suggest that your child is able to recognise numbers 1-10 and know the value of each number. One way of knowing whether your child knows the value of each number is to write the numbers down on a piece of paper and get your child to match a quantity of something to the correct number, you could use coins, dried pasta, buttons, building bricks, anything that your child can count and measure out. If your child is able to do this, you could try asking them what happens when you add or subtract an item.

To help with name writing you could start by seeing if they can trace their name, once they are confident at tracing you could try writing their name out to see if they can copy it. It is not expected for children to be able to write their own names before starting reception so please do not worry if your child has not mastered the art of pencil control. If they are struggling with holding the pencil correctly we would suggest fine motor activities such as threading (you can use a colander and wool or pipe cleaners) or using tweezers to pick up balls of cotton wool, anything that involves them using the pincer grip (thumb and forefingers).

If you have any concerns at all please do not hesitate to contact us, you can email us at or call us on either 07948 570545 or 07961 435979 or you can send a message via our Facebook page.

We hope to see you all soon.

Sara and all the staff at St Peter’s.
